Volunteer @ Rosie's Place

Come serve dinner to Rosie's Place - "a refuge for poor women". We'll be setting up, serving snacks (soup, etc.), helping to prepare food (like huge tossed salads, etc.), putting together plates, serving the women (and possibly their children), and cleaning up. Added bonus includes playing with the kids!

Rosie's Place is a GREAT place to volunteer. Everyone's very nice and the whole place is very upbeat! All that - plus a free dinner!

We'll meet at the church at 3:15 to head over. Or meet us over there at 4pm.

Rosie's is right by the Boston Medical Center. Accessible via bus (#1) or car. For more info, contact Kendra OR check out www.rosies.org.

Hope to see you there!

Intergenerational Spiritual Discussion: "Songs"

Spiritual Discussion: Songs
Tuesday Nov 11 @ 7PM
First Parish

Music provides the soundtrack to our lives---we associate songs with important events, time periods, and people. Music can take us back to old experiences, or provide an outlet for expression of our current feelings. It can move us to listen deeply or to express ourselves through singing and dancing.

How do the lyrics, music artist or other factors speak to our experiences or personalities, directly or indirectly? Why do certain songs hold meaning for us at different times in our lives?

Please bring in the lyrics and/or a CD to a song that has or has had meaning to you.

The discussion this week is intergenerational. This will also function as an ice breaker and warm up (no pun intended) to the First Parish "Big Chill" Dance Party to take place the following Saturday, November 15th @ 7PM. Questions? Please contact paul_j_morgan@yahoo.com; 617-233-7877.

UU Town Meeting to Address Budget Cuts

Just how much have the cuts in the Massachusetts budget affected local preschool and school budgets as well as to budgets of higher education? What can we do, together as a community, to support education and its success in preparing students for a rapidly changing world?

Yougn people in the school system, as well as parents, teachers, and community members who are interesting in addressing this issues are welcome to attend.

SftS: Articulating Your UU Faith

Sustenance for the Soul: Spiritual Exploration
"ARTICULATING YOUR UU FAITH" Part 2 of 3
When? 3rd Tuesday: November 18th, 7:00 p.m.
Where? First Parish in Cambridge, UU

Young Adults at all stages of their UU Spiritual Development have one thing in common... when some one asks you, "So what do UUs believe? What do *you* believe as a UU?" ... it's HARD to come up with an answer!

On the third Tuesdays of October, November, and December, we will follow a multi-part program to help us not only discover what we believe, but to be able to *articulate* it to other people and ourselves. We'll even pick up a bit of UU history on the way!

November's session focuses on UU History and Identity, and what it means for us as individuals to call ourselves UU! [If you didn't make it in October or if you have misplaced your 'homework', come right at 7PM for a quick 'cram session'!]

Any questions? Just drop me an email...

SftS: Interactive Worship- Silent Sounds

Sounds, patterns, vibrations and sensations… rhythms surround us in our waking, sleeping and dreaming moments.
Our bodies and minds are influenced by rhythms that are constant in our everyday lives. Some we’re aware of while others have a more subtle resonance. Join us as we explore the influence of these sensory experiences though creating sound and movement rhythms and discover both the rhythmic movements and the silent spaces in our lives.

If you have questions or would like more information please feel free to contact me!
