Trick or Treating for Cans

You are never too old for Trick or Treating! So, throw on that black, pointy hat, hop on your broom, and fly over to the church on Halloween from 5:30 to 7:30 to trick or treat for Project Soup, a local food pantry. We will meander in groups around the neighborhood pulling red wagons and trick or treating for cans. (And who knows? Maybe we'll collect some candy along the way, too!)

We will meet on Monday or Tuesday this week to pass out flyers in the neighborhood we plan on haunting. If you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible. You may call me at 617-746-1860 or email me at skratzig@hotmail.com. Abby Gitlitz and I would like to know how large of an area we can plan to cover.

Also, if you have a wagon or other rollable can collecting object to lend to the cause, please let us know. We are also looking for a couple of people with cars who would be willing to station it at a location within the neighborhood so that we can have a drop-off point for cans once the wagon becomes too full. Thanks!

Have a happy, haunted weekend!

Suzy and Abby

Update:
The time has come to drees up in your spooky best and come out and trick or treat! We wil be meeting at the church at 5:30 and then we will head over to a neighborhood in between Harvard and Porter. For those of you who want to trick or treat but need to be on a slightly later shift, we will also be meeting at the Brook's Pharmacy on the corner of Mass Ave and Linean St (about a third of the way from Porter to Harvard ) at 6:30. Come one come all. Bring a friend, bring a cart, and come joint the fun. Questions? email me or call (617)628 4869.

Intergenerational Women's Discussion Group

This month's topic will be
"FINDING PEACE IN A TIME OF WAR"

...In this time of looming war in the Middle East, most of us have been experiencing a range of emotions as we read the papers and listen to the news. From fear, confusion and frustration to anger, righteousness and despair about the decisions being made on behalf of our country.

Regardless of how one feels about the decisions being made, however, the prospect of war is a serious and frightening reality for a country to be involved in.

Is there PEACE to be found, tapped in to, held on to amidst this volatility, amidst this sense of impending turmoil?

Where do you PERSONALLY find peace? Is there a connection you have with something that transcends politics? Do you find solace in knowledge and activism, taking control to do, at least, what you can? Does your peace come from screening what you are willing to take in of the frightening and or depressing news?

Women of all ages are warmly invited to come share your thoughts and experiences about 'WHERE YOU FIND PEACE IN A TIME OF WAR'.

Creative Sharing Night

Bring a guitar, bring two. Bring a poem that you've written, or a passage from a piece of literature that you like. Bring a painting that you've made or some crayons to draw with. Dance for us. Bring a treat for people to munch on that you've made.

Note, no pressure to prepare something, you can just enjoy the evening.

Gather together in a friendly environment to share things with other people. Whether it's something that you've created or just something that you admire: share it with us.

Examples from past experience: singing songs, bringing pastries, reading passages from books, showing off a quilt that someone made, dancing, performing a monologue or a scene, reading a poem. Feel free to use one of these or come up with your own.

I will coordinate rides so please contact me if you need one or have one to give.

Intergenerational Healing Touch Group

The Healing Touch Group is a wonderful and welcoming gathering of folks interested in creating a safe space for sharing the natural healing power of human touch. No professional massage experience is necessary. If you like to give and receive theraputic and spiritual bodywork, such as massage or Reiki, come join us. Each evening begins with a centering and relaxing meditation. The Healing Touch Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month. Please plan to arrive at 7:00, so that we may begin with a guided meditation promptly at 7:30. Late arrival would be disruptive to the group once we begin, so the doors may be closed at that point.

YAG Worship Service

THEME: The Transforming Power of Love
According to the UU Principles and Purposes, one of the many sources from which our faith draws is: "Words and deeds of prophetic women and men which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love."

How can love "transform" us?
How can it transform the world?
Can love only transform our souls, and that which lies inside us?
Or can it transform our actions and words, too?
Can love overcome the destructive transformations wrought by hate, fear, and misused power?
How have you been transformed by others' love? By your own love?
Join us Thursday, and together we will attempt to answer these questions with readings, music, and our own shared experiences in a spiritual setting. We want to hear *your* own stories of the transforming power of love, too!

As with each YAG worship, an optional time for discussion, sharing, and touching base with friends will follow the worship. Many folks find this to be the most valuable part of the evening.

Thanksgiving Get Together

Are you unable to get together with your family this Thanksgiving? Come join fellow YAGers instead.

Noon - Starting at noon, you can arrive at Sam's apartment downtown and watch the game.

2PM - Meet Paul at the First Parish steps to take the subway down to Sam's place. We'll arrive to catch the end of the game and then as a group we'll decide as a group what we want to do, which could be going to movie, watching video, games, going for walk whatever. We're currently looking for an affordable restaurant open on Thanksgiving to go to. Does anyone have any good ideas to help with this?

(If you have an idea for an additional dish to prepare during that time, we could do that at the same time. Please email to touch base.)

7:00 Potluck starts in the Parlour. If you didn't come for the earlier time, just bring whatever you want, (Thanksgiving themed food not at all required).
