YAG Calendar

Sunday services at FirstParish (3 Church Street, Harvard Square) start at 10:30, followed by a coffee hour. The Young Adult Group meets informally for lunch every Sunday after the coffee hour. This is an easy way to meet people and find out more about YAG.

Come share with the fellow men in your community, your thoughts, your feelings, about that which is really important to you. Come learn about who you really sit with in your church.

Apple Picking & Apple Cooking

Come pick Cortlands, Macouns, Red and Yellow Delicious, Baldwins, and other varieties of apples in the beautiful setting of Nashoba Valley Winery in Bolton. Not only do they have gorgeous orchards on rolling hills, they also make their own award-winning wines. The orchards open for picking at 11 a.m., so you can either meet up with folks at First Parish at 10:30 to drive over, or meet the YAG there. (Directions can be found on their web site, www.nashobawinery.com, or call Jen). RSVP to indicate if you have a car or need a ride. After picking our apples, we will go to another location to try out some recipes for apple pie, apple crumble, apple tarts, applesauce, or any other apple-related dish you might be interested in. In case of inclement weather, please call Jen to find out if the event has been canceled.

Location:Nashoba Valley Winery, 100 Wattaquadoc Hill Road, in Bolton, Mass. for apple picking; location TBA for apple cooking

Hiking

Join us for a fall foliage hike! What could be more enjoyable than a walk in the woods among blazing red and orange leaves? This hike will be easy-to-moderate, so don't worry about being in shape (I'm certainly not). Bring lunch and your favorite nature poem, if you have one. It is very important to RSVP for this event so that we can plan driving arrangements, so remember to indicate if you have a car or need a ride. Also, please be on time, otherwise you will be left behind. In case of inclement weather, please call to find out if the hike is canceled or not.

Location:Meet at the Riverside T stop (end of the D line, part of the Green line, in Newton).

Intergenerational Women's Discussion Group

When: Wednesday, Sept. 19, 7 p.m. Where: First Parish Chapel Facilitator: Roberta Branca Topic: War By the time this meeting is held, our country could be at war in fact, and not just in rhetoric. Women of all generations have lived through one military conflict or another, whether it was World War II, Viet Nam, the Persion Gulf. Are there personal experiences or memories that come up for us in this latest conflict? The definition of "war" seems to change as rapidly as technology. How does this affect our opinions about each conflict?

Feel free to bring personal writings, pictures, news articles or other relevant memorabilia to share. There will be a spiritual component, so feel free to share a prayer or meditation as well.

The Women's Discussion Group is an intergenerational group that meets once a month to discuss issues of common interest, including topics such as: relationships, health, sex & sexuality, transitions, children, child-rearing, friendship, the idea of "home," money, traditional women's roles, what feminism means to us, the history of UU women, women's spirituality, and any other topics proposed by members of the group. We meet the third Wednesday of every month, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, in the Chapel at First Parish. All who align themselves with the female gender are welcome.

Time: 7
Location:The Chapel at First Parish

Hiking

The destination: Purgatory Chasm, in Sutton, MA. Purgatory Chasm is one of my favorite places. The centerpiece is a 1/4-mile long chasm, basically a lot of rocks that are fun to scramble around. Rock climbing skills are not necessary, just be sure to wear good shoes. If you're adventurous, we can even check out some of the little caves (in this case, you will not want to wear nice or white clothes). There's also a great field for Frisbee or picnicking, and an adult-sized swing set. And usually the ice cream truck is there.

RSVP so we know who to expect. Please let me know if you'd like to volunteer driving (about 45 minutes from Riverside).

Time: 10:00am
Location:10:00am at the Riverside T stop.
