SFTS: Finding the Sacred

Sustenance for the Soul: Spiritual Exploration
"Finding the Sacred"
Tuesday, November 30, 7:00 PM
First Parish In Cambridge

[Note: Please bring a "sacred object" to this session. See below.]

Even though we're not all always enthusiastic about admitting it, we meet in a church. :) Part of being in a church community is respecting the sacred, the holy. But what *is* the sacred? And since we UUs have this habit of having a slightly different take on all this wacky religious language, what is sacred in UUism?

On Tuesday we'll explore what the sacred is to each of us. Please bring with you an object that you consider "sacred" for whatever reason. It could be something from your childhood, from a special memory, or just a stone or leaf you picked up outside. We'll share our thoughts about what is sacred, and create some sacred space ourselves.

See you Tuesday!
Ethan

Time: 7pm, 7:30 start in
Location:Barn Room (upstairs) of church

Swing Dancing!

Swing Dancing!

This Friday, December 3, please mark your calendars: YAG is off to Swing City for a night of swing dancing! The Toni Lynn Washington Band is playing live music, and there’s an included beginner’s lesson in Swing & Lindy Hop before the dancing kicks off, so we can all learn to dance like pros (or at least have fun faking it a bit!)

The plan: To pool rides, we’ll meet up at Porter Square (in the Star Market parking lot) at 7PM to drive over to Swing City together for the 7:30 dance lesson. (Thank you to the drivers who have already volunteered and given me confidence that we’ll have enough cars to fit everybody!) Those joining up later in the night can also meet us at Swing City anytime. (Website with directions included at the bottom of this e-mail.)

No dance partners or dance skills required. The only hitch is the $12, ($10 with student ID) cover charge, but hopefully this will be well worth it.

What to do right now: So that we can organize rides, please let me know as soon as you can:

1. If you’re planning to come Friday night.

2. If you’re coming, if you could use a ride or could bring your car to help with rides.

Of course, the more the merrier so please feel free to show up Friday night even if we’re not expecting you. But if you tell me ahead of time, I’ll love you more for it.

SFTS: Community Visioning / Pizza Party

Sustenance for the Soul - Community Visioning and Pizza Party

ime has flown by! Its time to celebrate and look to the future of Sustenance for the Soul! We’ve worked hard to build a successful Young Adult centered spiritual development program, Sustenance for the Soul (SFS) that has been going on for over a year and a half.

Join us for pizza, discussion and planning for our future. If you care about having SFS as a spiritual community, this is THE evening to attend.

The six month terms of our latest fabulous and dedicated SFS leaders are over and its time for the leaders of the community building (Elizabeth), spiritual discussion (Meleah), worship (Karen), social justice (Kendra and Melissa) and one time workshop sessions (Ethan) to rotate out of their positions.

Its also time to reevaluate how the program is working and get feedback on where it should go from here.

--Do we want to continue meeting weekly or meet less often?
--Do we want training to run the programs?
--Do we want to expand the focus of SFS?
--Are we ready for different programming topics?
--Who will lead the programming sessions for the next 6 month round?

Bring your questions, your ideas and your appetite next Tuesday at 7:30. Encourage others to come as we’ll be making critical decisions about the future of the program.

Please let Melissa- melquirk(at)yahoo.com - know if you’ll be attending so we have enough pizza!!

Time: 7:30pm

GAMES NIGHT, December 9th

Hi all,

I'm hosting a games night this Thursday at my apartment (5 min walk

I'm going to have Settlers of Catan and Illuminati (if you have ever
dreamed of using groups such as the irs, the fnord motor company,
empty vee, and the orbital mind control lasers to take over the world-
this is your chance). If you have a favorite game, please bring it and
we can figure out what everyone is most interested in playing once we
have seen all the games. Also, if anyone has another copy of
Settlers, or the expansion, please bring it so we can play that with
more than 4 people.

I will have some snacks and beverages, if there is enough interest, we
could also order a pizza.

What: Games!
When: This Thursday (Dec 9th) 7:00 PM
Where: 18 Jay St #2, Somerville (Davis Square) - directions below-

First Parish is planning now for the annual gift-making workshop for children on Saturday, December 11th from 10 am-12:30pm. We're looking for adult volunteers to help lead a craft (no experience necessary). We all have fun, learn new things, get a break from the commercialism that's particularly overpowering this time of year, and the children create nice gifts for their friends and families. Registration forms for participating children are available on the bulletin board.
Return completed forms with checks to Jory or the church office. Please let Jory know if you can help out or sign up on the bulletin board. Your own craft ideas are welcome! Please call Ginger Ryan (617) 547-0261 with your ideas and questions.

SFTS: Making Space

Sustenence for the Soul: Spiritual Discussion - Making Space

It's that time of year again: time for holiday parties, fighting the hoards of shoppers, and for many of us, extended family gatherings. It can be a rare opportunity to be with the many people we love, even those who are usually far away, but with all of this gathering it can be hard to find time to ourselves. Join us tonight to share your secrets (and questions) about how to find your own quiet space in the midst of the chaos.
